Life After Steve

I said farewell to Steven, who over the last 10 yrs has become my best friend. Happy trails steven see you in Japan.
went to Chicago for Liz and Terry's wedding. Jen went to college in Chicago so knew something about it. Here we are trying to work at Marshall's Landing

Deep dish at Lou Malnati's, was aight.

eventually we ended up at Kumiko, a Japanese cocktail bar that was amazing. You pay the price though. $20 plus cocktails and they even had a $50 japanese whiskey cocktail. here's one we had with yuzu kosho and the ocean dust rim that was like savory seaweed and stuff and was amazing. We had 2 cocktails each on top of everything else from before and ended up drunk and skipping through the streets.

crazy fire escapes, almost comical

the bean was just down the street from our hotel

maybe some diner food at Lou Mitchell's will help our hangovers.
There was confusion because at Lou Mitchell's the double all the eggs you order so if you order 2 eggs over easy its policy that you get 4 eggs over easy. Who tf wants 4 eggs? In the end I ate 5 eggs cuz i had to have one of jens cuz you can't just leave eggs sitting there. Somehow I did not pay the price for this and I am still living today in 2023

we got Mel and Gerald and I had read about an "Italian Beef" is something you gotta eat in chicago. never heard of it and chose somewhere i thought looked and sounded authentic and so we went to Mr. Beef and jen recognized it as being the place from the hit show The Bear. They were sassy and fast moving inside but it was DELISH. I've had one in new york since then and it wasn't close to as good as this. There are many Italian beef purveyors in Chicago and this is the only one i've had but it was a good one.

now onto to chicago stuff i don't like, chicago style dogs are not my bag. Why so many pickled products on a chicago do? you can't even eat it. you got pickled bird's-eye chilis, dill spears, and relish. this was at Devil Dawg's Wicker Park.

this corner in wicker park reminds me of Camden town in london.

their wedding was in the University Club of Chicago. its crazy looking out the windows onto lake michigan which is so huge it looks like the ocean. So it was like we were in a hill top church overlooking the ocean.

was a black tie wedding and in that there's something called creative black tie where you can deviate from the normal stuffy attire. I got my patent leather loafers, hunter green crushed velvet jacket and i couldn't find a real continental bow tie so i made one by folding and pinning down a straight bat wing bowtie with a tie pin. Jen's dress is basically chain mail and ways a ton.

these look like some Chicago boys

we inherited this air fryer from steven and have used it twice

air fried ravioli and shishito peppers. obviously not as good cuz not dripping in grease but for the health conscious who need a fast and convenient mini oven an airfryer might be good.

neighbors were out of town and said we could go to the Brooklyn Grange in industry city and pick up their CSA veggie subscription from their rooftop garden.
