One Month in Korea - Part 12

super affordable Italian food at Gamchil 감칠 in Yeonnamdong with JP.  They somehow had bottles of wine for $15 which is insane cuz of Korea's protectionist policies that make wine really expensive.

There's a new little old school hanok village hot spot called Ikseon Dong 익선동 by Jongno 3 ga that Kyungwon took us too.  Its cool and new for now, we'll see how long it is until the traditional buildings get knocked down so a high tech Korean conglomerate mega shopping center can go in.

of all the breweries to get an early foothold in Korea I guess Goose Island was one of them.  I'm not the biggest fan so I was unpleasantly surprised to find that of all the beer in the world that could be in this cool little alleyway neighborhood its Goose Island.

He also took us to Craft Roo cuz he knows the guys there because he's importing Knee Deep and Indeed beer from the US and has had to go around and try to sell it.

Despite the rumors, no, it's not true, I'm not dating Lindsay Lohan.  (Korean hulk joke that surfaced at the time, you can google it).

Yeonnamdong walking around trying to find a cafe and freeeeeeezing.  What are these yellow things?  They aren't lemons or yuzu. Someone says they are Mogwa 모과

we eventually landed on this place and has an image of Frank Sidebottom's mask on the wall
Himeji Japanese curry was delicious but it was freezing inside.  Bonus points for being hard to find.

Gentle Bob should get punched in the crotch.  Seen in Garosugil side street.

We went to coex mall cuz we had nothing better to do cuz it was freezing.  There is this much instagramed Starfield library that is currently trending and has like 600 magazines etc.  Also Koreans love to say "trending" and "hot".

nextdoor to our airbnb in Yeonnamdong was Aloha Jenny, a cafe that we found out later serves virgin cocktails which is only Aloha by technicality in my book.  Also it was never open.  Shame that it had all the Jenny Yoo wrapped up in one cafe (minus the no alcohol)

Jen's first gamjatang was in yeonnamdong at Songganae 송가네 감자탕.  You sit there drink and merry-make whilst this pile of fresh veggies cooks down into the pork spine marrow and wild sesame seed broth.  Also side note perilla or gaennip is not sesame its "wild sesame".  Sesame leaves aren't edible but gaennip leaves pictured here are delicious and their seeds are crushed up and put in the broth and it makes it nutty and milky oh man!

pork spine that's probably been in a huge pot cooking all day.  The potatoes (which are the namesake of the dish) are to die for (wrist flick)

and equally exciting is the super flavorful fried rice you make in the pan with the leftovers and it gets all crispy yeaaaaaa.  This place is where lots of taxi drivers go they say which is the kind of place I like.

the new tallest building in Korea and 5th tallest in the world.  We agreed to watch a movie with Nana and her husband and since we were going to watch starwars the next week with my parents back in the states we had to settle on stupid Thor Ragnarock because like the rest of the world Korean's love marvel's smash and sass movies.  The only place playing it still was at Lotte World Cinema, all the way in Jamsil, the opposite end of the world from Yeonnamdong.

Google released an update that has AR stickers for their pixel phones

I think the name of the fruit is Mogwa 모과. Never had one but smells good.
