Lockdown Life

Lockdown life. It was risky meeting up with people outdoors for things like socially distant dinners but after a while everyone needed to do something.  Here we are at Pam and Reilly's up the block

Dubu of course plopped down in their plant bed

weather getting better so it makes the pandemic more bearable being outside

all of this plastic ink cartridge waste. They say most plastic in America doesn't get recycled anymore

found these chair the same place we found our rug (that had a note on it saying it was clean and ready for a new home). These chairs however, the paint started flaking off and they didn't work out

Pokemon Sword, the first game I played on Nintendo Switch. Not pictured is several weeks of me trying to play games on the laptop on Steam (Stardew Valley which I don't like, and Banner Saga 1 which was cool). I was talking to Bob and steven about how awesome it would be to play something like Sim City and how awesome mariokart was and eventually I said its a pandemic maybe i should get a Nintendo switch then i got obsessed with getting one and there was this website that would alert you when any were back in stock because they were sold out everywhere.

Mario Kart, looks like bob has a slight edge over me

outside Wild East Brewing

Come on son let's go catch a shiny jigglypuff together

Domino's Pizza garbage gone wild

socially distant drinks at John and Jana's so they could meet Dubu. Eventually they moved to Beacon and sold their longtime Park Slope house. Sad to see my pals who lived 1 block away from us, my old FIT mentor (who recommended me for a teaching position at FIT after seeing me on the street on day), and Jana who was my old boss while i was a student and then my boss at the Print lab for 2 yrs after I graduated. I house sat for them 10 yrs ago and have been over a bunch of times. They had a great backyard and cats and Felix the dog. Happy trails John and Jana. We did visit them in Beacon and need to go back

my first year of teaching is over. The fall semester was without a pandemic I taught digital illustration techniques. The spring semester got a month and a half in and then had to go remote, I taught illustration process II. The following yr was all remote and its much harder to teach and make a connection with anyone through the computer

I rotation of masks. At the time they said it took 3 days for the virus to die on stuff. Eventually they said the masks with the respirators were bad and dispersed particulate even more. There was a mask shortage and masks were hard to find so reusing them was what had to be done. Medical staff had to reuse and the state of the supply chain and the hording of masks especially N-95s while doctors and nurses had to go without were regular news stories

2nd batch of sourdough, looking pretty dense and not aerated enough. But still home baked bread is awesome even if the crumb doesn't end up being anywhere near perfect.

eventually a rent freeze was put into place. But it left everyone wondering what the hell was supposed to happen after it was unfrozen? suddenly people were supposed to come up with 6 months of rent or something on top of their Broadway show set design job was destroyed for example? Eventually an eviction moratoriam was put into place. Gov Andrew Cuomo never did cancel rent and a lot of human suffering happened. Andrew Cuomo was a pandemic hero for a while. People loved his calm authoritative daily briefings. There was even a term for the people that found him hot "Cuomosexuals". He wrote a book about how awesome he was at handling the pandemic pretty quickly before we were even out of the thick of it. Eventally he'd be taken down by sexual harassment allegations in 2020 of resigned. His actions resulted in many nursing home deaths

overcooked 2 was a big game at the time. Requiring commuication with your teammates to prepare food as a team of chefs. There was much wholesome game playing like this during the pandemic (still ongoing 1/20/22)

Newish Industry City is a half hour walk south and became a weekend respite, especially the Japanese market. We'd go to get asian groceries, some to go beers, hang out outside

I did a half hour drawing session with Zachary over zoom for the summer. Our theme was mythological creatures like the Scottish Selkie and the Manticore

Jen's parents sent a view from their window in Wonju Korea and I was wishing we were spending our pandemic there

4th of July in a pandemic was on our roof and socially distant
Dubu ate one of those giant braided bully sticks that's 3 bull penises braided together and then he zonked out. I guess there is such a thing as too much weiner

7 layer bean dip, probably the best thing that happened that week. SPAM, tuna sold out, but refried beans in stock

Jen made poke bowls after our visits to the Japanese market which still got sushi grade fish in
