Hong Kong - Day 4

Day 4

some wonton place from a guidebook (not rough guides).  it wasn't that special so i'm not even gonna try to remember where it was.

when you get noodles and wontons is it always so small and unsatisfying?

HDR'd this and it made it all soft and sh!tty.  anyway, i love how there are grungy old buildings amongst the modern new buildings, and the round corners.

the trams on hong kong island are pretty awesome.  they're slow but if you have time, what better way to get around than up on the upper level of a tram with the breeze blowing on a summer day.  something about being higher up and above everything is nice too.

i've wanted these cole haan saddle shoes for a while but they came out in 2010 so nowhere sells them anymore, especially not this hard to find pair with the red tounge and back accent.  i searched for the only cole haan store in HK and it was in the basement of sogo in causeway bay.  and what were the chances that they had one display model of these left?  and they were in my size?  and were 70% off?  I'm still waiting for the bad part of the yinyang of the universe to get me.  so i got these for about $70 US.  yes they're more in HK thus 70% off the $200 US retail price worked out to be 70$.

that busy crosswalk in front of sogo.  by the way, sogo is a japanese department store. It seems like hong kong is largely japanese and taiwanese influenced.

there were street cops handing these out.  thanks dude.

Jardine's Bazaar full of weird stuff and cheap cheap clothing.

oh man these middle school uniforms are horrible

do they really need this at a cosmetics store?  to an american the beret and black suit says special forces covert operations by any means necessary.  Not friendly cosmetics store security.

on the left you can see the girl rushing over to start waving her hands and say no photos.  I was feelin' Marc Jacobs' summer color scheme.  oranges and blues, gotta use that in my illustrations.

Love the plants sign outside of Times Square department store.

love the trams.

Look at all that.  cars, buses and people on the tram tracks that double as the road with streets going every which way.  signage all lit up and neon stretching for stories.  I love the craziness and density and clustercuss that Hong Kong is.

first level of the tram is for losers, and locals who have realized how impractical it is to climb to the top level all the time.

the view from red bar in the IFC

the other view including the bank of china building.

more mid-levels escalators fun

there was a photo of this same spot from the ground in the last post.

jennie and her great attitude face

or are these that set of stairs?

i would later find out that there are a bunch of tsui wah restaurants.  this one is on wellington road.

fried fish skin i think.  you dip it in that broth.  on the right, swiss sauce wings.  why is it called that?  don't know

the mid-levels escalators "is the longest outdoor covered escalator system in the world. The entire system covers over 800 metres in distance and elevates over 135 metres from bottom to top.[1] It was constructed in 1993 to provide a better commute by linking areas within the Central and Western District on Hong Kong Island."  - wikipedia.  there are a bunch of sections of it, so its not all connected.  most of the way up there are cool bars, restaurants, shops, galleries, etc... on both sides.  love it

sorry but it's kind of cool peering into someones house that is 5 stories up.

i didn't take one.  i think this woman paints a cat live everyday or something.  i forget what the sign said.

it wasn't these stairs, they aren't steep enough.

the subway cars have no doors on the ends so its like one long tube of air that somehow is way more refreshing than the subway cars that are connected like in new york and elsewhere where you're stuck with the dirty hobo air in the tiny car you have the misfortune of being in.
