La Rambla

Here in Barcelona (and maybe all of Spain, I don't know) they call tourists and foreigners "Guiri" (sounds like Giri). It's not an insult but a colloquial term, but it still feels negative to me. La Rambla is one of the many hotbeds for Guiri. From now on i'll refer to touristas and foreigners as Guiris.

This is La Rambla. Spanish poet Federico García Lorca once said that La Rambla was 'the only street in the world which I wish would never end'. I'm sure he was referring to a time when it wasn't saturated with 95% tourists and tourist traps. Now its the hottest place for pickpocketing and touristas. It is beautiful but i don't know why this is so appealing to people when there are other beautiful Ramblas that have way less tourists like Rambla Catalunya even.

these living statue dudes do not turn my crank. i will leave them for the guiri masses.

these guys are infamous. while this guy does these slight of hand tricks, his partner(s) pick pockets the crowd. and they got some people.

seconds later these cops came slightly running (because i'm sure they do this all day long) and the thieves ran away. These tourists done got gotten, but don't worry guy, it happens to everyone. I am not looking forward to my first time.

a statue of christopher columbus at the end of La Rambla. from portugal but sailed to the Americas under the Spanish crown. Is he a hero in Spain?

I see these guys and these vans around a lot. Berets are more badass than say, NYPD hats or British ridiculously shaped police helmets.

Inside the market. As with everything it would be way more charming with less Giris.

I am in love with cheese. This is beautiful to me. I would love to have my way with any one of these.

Gotico area

marco on the playground backhoe (i'm a big boy i know how to spell it now!) whose handles and mechanics are so heavy a child could probably get 3 swipes in before being rendered a weak child.

Random door attachment in Gotico.

on the left a draft beer, on the right a "clara" which is beer and lemon soda. It's a common drink. I guess it's called a Shandy Gaff in other parts of the world, but i don't think Americans drink this because I never even heard of it before living abroad. Vodka and coke, beer and lemon soda, what? Moritz beer is from Barcelona.

Pimientos de Padron. These peppers from Padron are sauteed in olive oil and sprinkled with big grain sea salt. A delish common Tapa. They say 1 in 5 is spicy so you never know.
