Post Vacay Blues

I had a serious case of the post vacation blues for more than a month after Hawaii.  Like really depressed, felt like what's the sense of going on with life.  Nothing inspired me.  I knew I would get out of it eventually as the crushing reality of life and the NYC rat race set in.  How sad.  Well everywhere/time can't be Hawaii.
this was before the wedding actually, Julian is wardrobe coordinator for Broadway shows, currently he's working on Blackbird starring Jeff Daniels and Michele Williams.  He got us tix.

Stacy got us the Lucky Peach 101 Easy Asian Recipes cookbook and it has a rice cooker one pot recipe "miso claypot rice, no claypot".  I've seen stuff around the interwebs for a while now on how you can make anything in rice cookers even cake.

ginger, oyster sauce, chicken thighs, scallions, rice, sesame oil, soy sauce, salt, miso, shaoxing wine, shiitake mushrooms.  You could set this on a timer and have it ready for you when you get home even.

David Chang of Momofuku fame opened a new place "Fuku" that only serves fries and $8 fried chicken sandwhiches.  He hopes it will become a fastfood chain, trying to make fast food better.  It was delicious of course and there was no wait when we went at lunch time.  From New York Magazine: Chicken thighs that have been marinated in habanero purée, coated in buttermilk, dredged in a spice blend, and deep-fried, then tucked inside a—what else?—Martin’s potato roll with pickles and butter. Of course, this being Momofuku, the chicken is sustainably sourced from a network of small farms, the rolls are steamed (not unlike the bao that earlier models were served on as an occasional Noodle Bar special), and the butter is laced with fermented-chickpea flavor from Chang’s culinary lab.

we had a post wedding re-cap party night at our local tiki bar, Zombie Hut.  It has a kitchy island tiki theme and gross sweet cocktails like mai tais and blue hawaiians.  and of course it was winter coat weather and raining.  Welcome back to NY.
