Snowzilla - Part 2

we lived to see the morning
steven went to target to find a sled or something to sled on, he sent me this photo and i said that's not gonna work.  next he sent me a photo of a 12" frying pan.

I saw this when I was out buying a sled.  Later we saw another one of these discarded at the top of a hill.  Blizzards seem to be an economic strong point for the manufacturers of plastic goods that resemble the shape of a sled or saucer if you squint your eyes at it.  There were the discarded and broken carcasses of many a sled all over the park.  You can add the one I bought to the pile for $10 also.  When I was a kid sleds were'nt $10 pieces of sh!t that broke after a few uses.  Then again I wasn't a full grown adult
prospect park was filled

a full out toboggan

after not getting thrills from the normal hills we happened upon this flight of 4 sets of stairs that curve around at the bottom with huge rocks lining the left wall that are unavoidable in a saucer.  we both got 2 runs in before the saucer broke in half.  On one run the saucer slipped out just as my bum connected with the rock at the bottom.

as far as I know we are awesome.  As far as I know we did the most xxxxxtreme sledding in all of Prospect Park yesterday.  When you're at the top of the stairs it does look a little nuts

the moment where things got 2 XTReme.  Steven broke 2 saucers that day actually.

we rounded the bend holding the 2 fragments of our saucer (FYI yes we were like two Kindergarten buddies sharing a sled and wondering around in the snow looking for fun and adventure) and saw this pristine unbroken saucer out on the ice of the boathouse pond.  It was so close yet so far.  We tried a few things but 5 dumbasses later and the saucer still sits out on that lake.

someone made a very descriptive sledding map of prospect park and we think this is what they were saying was the "ultimate run in the entire park".  It was the steepest but short lived and not dangerous.  I would say that staircase deep in the forest of the park is the ultimate.  After 2 beers at a pub I was in the burmuda triangle of transportation so I had to walk home in the snow for an hour with a sore body and bum.

Snowzilla - Part 1

this year they were calling the big storm Snowzilla.  NYC missed the record snowfall by .25 inches but did set the daily record
a few days after brew day
after a few more days this airlock with water in it went on.  It now sits with a yoga mat wrapped around it and a blanket on top.

awesome Japanese postal stamps.  got a bunch of year of the monkey nengajo post cards from friends in Japan.

plastic bags over mirrors too

we made it two blocks to Abeline where it was more festive and bustling than i've ever seen it in the day time.  we went to several bars and its as if the blizzard made people want to get out and do stuff.

the walking dead

after a lot of drinks

by midnight the blizzard was over.  There was a travel ban on driving in NYC until the next morning.  Most trains were shut down or delayed severely or sections that run above ground terminated

a weird section of the block on the super snow drift side that had nature dig their cars out.

Brew Day

This is the true power of the craft beer revolution.  If you follow the other half brewery on social media they tell you when their can releases are happening.  They sell beer almost exclusively in cans and they have become a beer nerds dream brewery.  The can releases are always on saturday mornings.  We gave up instantly when we saw this.  We talked to one guy and he said the first people there showed up at 5 am and he's been there since 7:30 am and it was 10:30 when we talked to him.  INSANITY.  The line went around 2 corners.

the second corner has been turned.
there was no line for the pop up sandwich shop inside the brewery though.  We would get our beer later that night though and game the system.

time to brew with the sixpoint resin double IPA kit bob gave me for christmas.

we started off the night with drinks at the other half brewing co tasting room and picked up korean/mex food at kimchi grill on the way home.  we had a party of 11 people!  What a brew party

so a lot of the brewing process is taking the temp of the water and keeping it steady.  Didn't see that coming.

finally drank this blueberry liquor from North Korea that traveled around with me for 3 yrs.  It was kind of enjoyable actually and didn't taste evil

Three Testicles Brewing Co's first brew day and they're already arguing

boiling various stuffs for over an hour

the wort

tasting spent wort.  gross

gotta wait two weeks, bottle, and then wait 2 more weeks

things started getting weird.  A great time was had by all.

and to top it all off we were able to buy the beers that peeps waited 3 hours for in line later that night at the brewery cuz they had leftovers.  Score!  But then again these beers are $16 per 4 pack.  Next post.  Tasting our beer that has turned into donkey p!ss
