Roman Holiday

On this day we hit up a lot of locations from "Roman Holiday".

If you haven't see this film go do it now!  You will be in love with Audrey Hepburn.  You will have a giant man crush or normal crush on Gregory Peck.  You will want to go to Rome.  You will see a rare non-hollywood ending.  An absolutely charming film by William Wyler.

I regret not buying this little poster I saw somewhere in Rome.  it would be so sweet on my wall right now.  we were in a rush and never saw it again.

The Spanish steps.  Audrey Hepburn ate gelatto here in the movie so Bob and I did as well.  It was not cute or romantic (a reoccurring theme when it's two brothers).  There were all these tourist a-holes there and it was hot.

watch out Audrey,  here he come and he's going to make you fall in love with him in one day!

pizza they folded over.  it looked standard.  i dont know if its standard everywhere in Italy/Rome.

The Trevi fountain.

Here is the buxom sizzlin' crazy co-star of Fellini's "La Dolce Vita" prancing around in Trevi Fountain in the film.  If you haven't seen this film take caution, it might drive you to madness because a lot of it makes no sense, and is probably not supposed to.

also so many tourists.

a bunch of assorted beautiful Roman stuff in one frame

The Vatican City lies behind those chains.  It's the smallest internationally recognized independent state in the world.  It's population is like 800 people.  The Pope is the head of state and government.  no passport needed to get in.  You just have to wait in line for a long time.  we waited like 30-40 minutes.  We really messed this one up.  We could have done the Vatican city properly if everything there wasn't so poorly organized.  to see the Sistine chapel you have to go to the other side of the Vatican city and wait in a line there.  last entrance is something crazy like 4:00pm there.  so if you wait in this line you don't see any signage telling you where to go until you get to the security checkpoint.  Or maybe you don't at all, I can't remember.  All I know is I ran, as in running around half of the vatican city outer wall and finally saw signage for the vatican museum and sistine chapel.  So we missed the Sistine Chapel cuz it was too late.  all we got to see was st. peter's basilica.

this guy's job sucks a little more than your other european high guards because his outfit looks like a hippie juggler's fantasy.

inside St. Peter's Basilica

these people live just outside the Vatican walls

Pizzarium was also recommended by Van Der Kock and other's online.  its out of the way and we would pay dearly for it in the form of getting super tired wandering around this kind of wasteland area of Rome afterwards.  It takes a while to walk here and then you're in the middle of no man's land.  The goal was Travestere  but to get there you have to go through some unspectacular places.  and since there's only like 1 or 2 subway lines and we were too stupid to figure out the bus system we had to walk it, all of it.  Along the way we somehow ended up walking on this road with no sidewalk (happens to us a lot, are we stupid or something?) and walking for hours and hours.  after walking for like 10-12 hrs a day everyday you start to feel it.  We passed the time by fighting and making fun of each other and ourselves and saying really mean things (the really mean things were mostly from my end).

pretty good stuff I must say

weirdo ville on the way

taking a much needed beer break at Il Baretto.  pretty cool place by American University.

we happened to pass by the Bocca Della Veritas again but its all locked up behind bars.  so close :(

Audrey in the movie.  I like this graininess and black and white a lot better than my sharp digital camera photos.  I also like looking at Audrey infinitely better than looking at Bob, god.

That's it for Rome ya'll.  So in conclusion Rome is interesting because everything is thousands of years old.  The food was amazing.  Trastavere area is awesome.  Sucks that we messed up the Vatican but its a good excuse to come back some day.  We were only there long enough to get the tourist level view of things.  See you in Venice!
