My old roommate Vivi, aka Maiko from 52nd street in New York and FIT got married in tokyo on april 1st, 2012.  this was the excuse i needed to get back over to japan for cherry blossom season and in extension tack on trips to korea, china, hong kong, and singapore

I'm sure their wedding was super expensive.  it was at Happo-en in shirokane dai and had a traditional shinto ceremony that lasted like 8 minutes for real.  and then it was on to eating and drinking.  and this was all by 10 am.

I made the wedding board for her reception.  in japan they always have a wedding board and its usually a big head little body caricature of the couple, so they were really happy to get this one based on gustav klimt's "the kiss".  For once being an illustrator paid off.  As soon as they found out i made the wedding board i was instantly surrounded by girls that wanted to meet me, and champagne, and butterflies, etc....  Everyone was so friendly with me.  again i feel like this hair had something to do with it too.  I would like to think it's because of my super illustration skills and not my bouffant but who knows.

everyone's favorite part about going to a japanese wedding, giving money in denominations of 3.  that means you have to give 10,00 yen ($125) but you're a cheap bastard if you give that much so everyone starts from 30,000 yen ($380) and up, 60,000, 90,000, and so on.  Only i didn't have to give anything cuz i made the wedding board yay!

the were a million speeches by vivi and eisuke's bosses, parents, siblings, etc... and dramatic entrances and stuff.  at one point when they first started serving food they said "kitchen.............OPEN!!!!!!" and then the sliding fusuma doors slide open quickly and dramatically and the spot lights went over and there was a kitchen and staff ready to leap into action.  hahahhahhah
